ABOUT

“I need to ‘be’ and ‘feel’ connected with my work, so often it has a sense of personal meaning that is based on my ‘story’ or ‘journey’.

Through my work I hope to communicate a sense of peace, beauty and rest that can be found in nature, when we allow ourselves to slow down and contemplate the beauty of the world in which we live.”

Ashley Hay was born in Scotland, although having migrated to Australia in 1969, she has always called Australia ‘home’.

Since her early years Ashley has explored a diverse range of mixed media, developing an extensive visual language of alternative art surfaces and rich textures.

Capturing a sense of ‘story’ and ‘place’ is the essence of Ashley’s work. She approaches her imagery with a spiritual ethos composed in a contemporary expressionist style. Much of her work is an intuitive response to her surroundings and it’s her hope that the viewer connects with her story as they engage, relate to and are impacted by the imagery.

As well as maintaining her own art practice, Ashley is the Australian Importer for Powertex. She loves inspiring others to create and runs regular art workshops from her studio in Safety Bay.
